A reason to why you should develop patience in the hiring process of your organisation

Did you know that On-boarding, orientation, ingraining culture, establishing relationships and leadership and retention strategies all start in the hiring process?

Hiring the right people for your organization takes time. If you are patient enough to wait, you will start to see where the real holes are and to identify what you need to have versus what you want to have. Having the discipline to hire slow can be difficult; however you need the right person for the right time. Sometimes you might feel that some positions are nice to have but at the end of the day you will realize that they are not a core competency in your organisation at that time.

Take your time, don’t get yourself overworked and overwhelmed that you rush through the process by moving too quickly to bring someone new onboard.  No matter how long it takes, we have to get to a point where it is a ‘Yes there is a need! It takes time to hire the right people who will support your mission and vision as well as fitting into the culture of your organisation. The mission and core values should be reflected in the behaviours of the candidates you hire, they should be exhibited in the day to day activities they accomplish as they work for your organisation. It’s better to build patience and avoid panic when trying to get positions filled; it takes patience to find the right person. Be patient. You may be surprised at what, or better yet, who comes along when you just wait.

My simple and easy advice to you is that you take your time and make the best decision possible. Do not settle on the first candidate that seems good enough. Wait for that candidate that you cannot pass up, and develop patience for the right timing, and for the right need. This is my advice to small businesses, nonprofits, and social enterprises that want to grow and think big.
