Woman taking charge: Meet Mofolusade Sonaike the founder of Mumpreneur and Branded

How many of you know that Woman Entrepreneurship can serve as a catalyst of economic development of the country? Quite few I guess! However, women are nowadays rising up to make a change and contribute to the economic growth. Statistics shows us that Female entrepreneurs are said to encompass approximately 1/3 of all entrepreneurs worldwide. Women in today’s world are high visible part of the economy, selling all manner of products and services. What may come as a surprise is that many of the entrepreneurs who are changing the face of African business are women.

Following the release of the Mastercard Index of Women’s Entrepreneurship (MIWE) on March 2018, it was revealed that 46.4 percent of businesses in Ghana are owned by women, making it one of the top performing African countries highlighted in the index.

The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2016/17 found women’s entrepreneurial activity globally is up 10 per cent, closing the gender gap by five per cent since 2014. Sub-Saharan Africa led the way with its female entrepreneurship rating highest globally. 25.9 per cent. 25.9% of the female adult population in the region is engaged in early-stage entrepreneurial activity. In Senegal that number spikes to 36.8%.

I think that female entrepreneurship is important for many reasons. Women are natural entrepreneurs, and it is easy for them to give life to the best entrepreneurial ideas. They are also enduring and can thus face the challenges brought by entrepreneurship.” – Charlette N’Guessan, the first female Ivorian EIT at MEST
