What the true Church of Christ is and always will be

Do you go to church every Sunday? Did you grow up in a church going family? What do you think of the church for today’s generation? As a Christian what do you think the true church of Christ is?

With so many churches being planted today, it’s really confusing and difficult to tell which church to go to, or which church is teaching the right doctrine. Many people have been jumping from one church to another, some seeking the true teachings of Christ, others seeking miracles, others inspired by the music, and so on it goes with so many artifacts involved. Our minds have been filled with bombarded imagination of what the church should look like, to the extent of forgetting what the true church of Christ is all about.

You can see people taking pride in their churches, you can even hear them argue on how best their churches are. Some saying their church has got the best praise and worship band ever, their pastor is the only true servant of God, the best music system, others taking pride in their church buildings, windows, doors, the chairs, the new marble floor, the singers, and so many other things not to mention.

And as days go by, we see fancy cathedrals, tents, and church buildings erecting everywhere, each with its own name, kind, pride and congregations. My question is, are we really being one as Christ and the father are? (John 17:20-21) Do we really understand the true mean of what the church should be about? (Acts 20:28; Titus 2:14; I Peter 1:18-19, I Peter 2:9, Colossians 1:13; Philippians 3:20-21, Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 3:8-11). Honestly, we have chosen to set our eyes on the things we see and touch, and to me I believe that these things have robbed the true glory of what the church of Christ should look like.

Since we as Christians are failing to take the word of God seriously, we are being misled by those who are distorting the gospel, those who call themselves Christian ministers yet fail to teach the true meaning of a church according to the bible. They have led us to believe that, the church is the building we go to for worship; however on the other hand, this is not what the bible tells us the church is about. The church of Christ is more than just a building, the music system, the band, the chairs, the windows, the preacher, and all that you can mention. And it should be clear that the Church of Christ is not limited to by buildings or the things we see and touch.

So what is the church of Christ? What is its true meaning to the believer? There is only one place to go for answers about the church. The Bible, the word of God, tells all us about God's church, and it clearly presents one church! From the very first of the Bible we find God's oneness stressed, and the unity of His followers taught.

For you and me as Christians it should be clearly understood that the church of Christ is not a building or the things we see and touch, it’s not a locality, neither is it an organization. The church of Christ is a living and binding of fellowship of people who together meet around their lord and saviour Jesus Christ to hear his word and do his will. This church refers to God’s people who are called out of the world into fellowship with Him, it is the spiritual unity that all Christians have. We should not refers to the church of Christ as an institution, instead refer to it as a spiritual entity made up of those who have by grace through faith been brought into a close, intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9). Those people, no matter which building, denomination, or country they happen to be in, constitute the true church. The church of Christ can be anywhere believers gather to fellowship with the God through Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 16:9; 2 Corinthians 8:1; 11:28)

With that been said, when choosing a church to attend to, the first thing to do is to ask the Lord to guide you, it is important to remember that a gathering of believers should be a place where those who belong to the true church (the spiritual entity) feel at home. That is to say, a good local gathering/assembly will uphold the Word of God, honouring it and preaching faithfully, proclaim the gospel steadfastly, and feed and tend the sheep. Find a gathering that is true to the Bible, one where the people love Jesus Christ and serve Him as Lord.

In any community those who share the same faith in Christ get together regularly to worship Him, just as they did in Bible times. They form a local church and work together for the Lord. The building is only a vessel or a place of those who believe meet. Every Christian should tell his family and friends how they can be saved. The Holy Spirit helps us take the gospel message to every part of the world. We work together to do this.

Matthew 18:20 ‘’For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.’’

Colossians 4:15 ‘’Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house.’’
